The Modern Work product business planning team is part of the Microsoft Business Planning organization, and our team charter is to accelerate growth through business model innovation, packaging, pricing, and licensing for Modern Work products. Within this team, we have a unique opportunity to lead a team that is responsible for the monetization strategy for Microsoft Teams. This Senior Business Planner sits in the central Monetization & Business Planning team in the Cloud Marketing organization. The Monetization and Business Planning (M+BP) team is responsible for monetization strategy, pricing, and packaging constructs for products representing over $100 billion of annual revenue. To deliver on this broad charter, we’ve built a an industry-leading reputation for strategic thought leadership. As a Senior Business Planner, you will deliver real impact by:
  • Collaborating with engineering to turn new product innovations and roadmap into revenue, growth, and profitability for Microsoft.
  • Creating business model frameworks that align with customer value.
  • Optimizing customer experience through new commerce innovation.
  • Creating incentive structures for our partner ecosystem to deliver value for end-customers.
  • Developing offer strategies to accelerate cross-cloud adoption and new user growth.

Responsibilities

As Senior Business Planner, you will:
  • Lead cross-functional teams to land monetization strategy, pricing decisions, and packaging constructs for Microsoft Teams products
  • Establish new business models to drive growth: identify business opportunities, perform deep analysis, and draft executive-ready proposals
  • Collaborate with product engineering and product marketing to identify, prioritize and deliver new value that drives adoption while capitalizing on customers’ willingness-to-pay
  • Establish and present product monetization strategy to senior executives across the company
  • Propose pricing changes, discounting guidance, and promotions to grow our market share and revenue
  • Collaborate with finance teams to assess the financial and economic impact of business model proposals
  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture within your team and at Microsoft

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience AND Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Computer Science, Economics, Business, or related field
    • OR 6+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience AND Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), or related field.
  • Experience working across diverse stakeholders to define and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Strategic framing skills to create alignment between engineering, product marketing, and business owners.
  • Exceptional business judgement/strategic thinking.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
Business Planning IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $101,200 - $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $130,000 - $213,200 per year.
